Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ: (Philippians 1:6), we believe that all true Christians grow spiritually. This is an indication of spiritual life. Without a pattern of spiritual growth, there is little evidence of spiritual life. However with spiritual life and growth comes the need for spiritual food and spiritual exercise.
God likens His Word, the Bible, to milk and meat. "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, thatye may growthereby: " (I Peter 2:2, Hebrews 5:13-14). We believe the Bible will cause Christians to grow spiritually. The church has a partial role in that growth through preaching, teaching and proclaiming biblical truth.
Working, serving, laboring and walking are all action word implying exercise. (1 Peter 4:10-11, Eph. 4:11-16, Col. 4:12) All of this exercise of using our lives to serve others helps us grow spiritually as well.
